Lutheran Groups

You may be interested in joining one of our groups (lists) or one of those moderated by other LCMS Lutherans.

These are lists where members communicate with one another about topics of interest to them.  Read the descriptions beside each list; for those hosted by Yahoo!Groups you can subscribe to them here; for ones hosted elsewhere, directions are found on how to subscribe to the list.

If you know of LCMS lists that might be of interest to others that are not listed here, please see the bottom to tell us about them.

This list came about because I, as a list moderator, frequently found people who were active on my list or on other lists that I frequent who had no idea that other LCMS lists were available.  I would suggest a list based on the person's apparent interests, and .. rather than continue this practice and have to compose a message on how to subscribe to the various lists, I thought it a good idea to generate a list of LCMS lists.

LCMS-Issues

This is a forum for discussing current issues in the Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod.  Our goal is to be honest and straightforward about problems and concerns in our synod to try to improve the way we "walk together."  Posts will be screened to encourage civility in discussions which can become quite passionate.  Members will have access to each other's email addresses, if they wish to pursue offlist conversations.

Moderated by Pastor Jeff McPike and Norm Fisher.

Lutheran_Liturgy

LUTHERAN LITURGY is an e-mail forum for discussion of the history, theology and practice of worship specifically, the Divine Service, and other orders of service.  The purpose of the discussion is to share about, learn from, and appreciate more the real life which the liturgy brings to the Church as a whole and to its individual members.  The focus of the discussion is guided by the Holy Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions (The Book of Concord).

This list is moderated by Rev. Tim May, LCMS pastor in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

LPT (Lutheran Pastoral Theology)

LPT is an internet list for pastors (and lay people) who want to discuss how to apply God's Word and the Lutheran Confessions to specific situations within the church. Confidentiality will be carefully maintained and, as faithful undershepherds to the Good Shepherd, the love of Christ will be the foundation of all that is discussed.

This list is moderated by Pastor Dale Critchley, Delaware, Iowa.

AgnusDay

Introducing 'Agnus Day' -a lectionary comic strip

Meet Rick and Ted

Each week, Rick and Ted (Rick's the one with the dark nose and the cup of coffee) talk after church. Rick is Ted's mentor. Their conversation is usually inspired by the day's Gospel reading from the Common Lectionary.

The comic strip always makes a point and usually gets a laugh. In doing so, the comic strip brings to the weekly service bulletin another means of contact with the Gospel for the day. Often that which makes us laugh, makes us remember.

'Agnus Day' is the creation of Pastor James Wetzstein, a Lutheran pastor with about ten years of parish experience. Jim serves a congregation in Gary, Indiana, where he lives with his wife, Tracey and three cats and a dog (but no sheep).

Pastors' Wives

Deb Perry is the owner and moderator of several lists for LCMS pastors' wives in the LCMS.  The lists have been active since July of 1999.  The purpose for these lists is to encourage and support each other in our roles as pastors' wives and in our personal ministries.  A second list was created when the membership reached 70, as it was felt that discussion would be improved if the list was kept small.  The original list is LCMS-PWs while the secondary list is LCMS-PWs2.

In addition to the general list, list LCMS-PWsC is for those who are members of the original groups who want to talk about implementing contemporary worship in their congregations, and LCMS-PWsT is for deeper discussions of topics related to our faith.
